I'm sure we've all done this at one time or another, right? Well, a few ideas came to me tonight and I figured I'd pitch them and see what y'all thought of them.

Console: PS2/3. Not to shaft the Revolution or X-Box fans, but I get the feeling that the Playstation family is the best place for a potential SRW game.

Development team: Impact/MX team. Alpha 3 is indeed badass, but some of the animations are just so stilted that it's bothersome, especially the PLA attacks.

Graphics: Super-deformed 2D sprites. Yeah, I went there. I know everyone goes on about how amazing 3D stuff is, but rendering just can't compare to something well-drawn. As for SD, I really don't think I have to explain it. Besides, anyone who would pass up on this series just because they used SDs wouldn't like it anyway.

Originals: Ryusei, Kyosuke, Kusuha, Zengar. I know it sounds lame to re-use originals, but these four are among the more iconic SRW originals and carry a lot of power with them. It would also serve as a bridge with the OGs and the OVA. If this game did well enough, then they could see about another one that uses the standard formula of new originals.

Series

Real:
Zeta Gundam
Char's Counterattack
Gundam Wing (with EW Gundams as secrets)
Gundam Seed
Full Metal Panic
Macross + DYRL?
Nadesico TV
Evangelion + EoE

Super:
Mazinkaiser OVA
Shin Change Getter Robo
The Big-O
Giant Robo
Dancouga
G Gundam
Rahxephon
Goddanar

I know this list is probably crap, but please bear in mind that when it comes to US-licensed stuff, there's not much to work with. I did my best to pick out a list that would represent the diverse elements of the mecha world while both representing the SRW standards and staying within the bounds of US licensing.

So, how's this look? Go ahead, tear it apart.

For a moment, I thought you'd say Robotech, but I guess I was wrong. That list looks like a mix of Alpha Gaiden mixed with SRWJ/D. Not bad per se, but given how much the PS3 could handle, this list is... incomplete. Given licensing limits, I guess it could work, but the addition of

Full Metal Panic
RaiJinOh

would be nice.

Raijinoh isn't over here yet.
Swap it for Gravion?

That's why it would be relatively easier to acquire a license for it, unless it poses the same stupid license problem as the Brave series. If Gravion is in, so should Godannar, really.

I'd also suggest Macross Plus as well. Maybe even DaiGuard

Also, since Virtual On broke through in @3, why not add some iconic video game suits? I think Virtual On is a good choice, along with >_> maybe say, Battletech... Maybe not. Edit: D'oh forgot about... that series that everybody over looks X_X Power Rangers.

I've only seen a few episodes of Full Metal Panic (even then, I didn't like it), but it seems to have quite a strong following here in the States, so it would probably wind up in a US SRW, if such a thing ever came to pass.

On the SR side of things, Dai Guard could probably squeeze in. After all, it was on Robot Week on Toonami.

I don't see Zeorymer being in there. It's something of an obscure title. Yes, it may have been in the Japanese SRWs, but different market would invite a different approach.

While I doubt it has enough wide spread fame to warrant an inclusion, my inner fanboy just screams for Godannar. Pipe dream, I know.

So, it's been suggested that I add/change a couple of things, eh?

Well, let me know what y'all think of the revised list.

I'd toss in Megazone 23 for the bonus stages at least. It's been lisenced, and it might let ADV know that they're not JUST interested in Evangelion for SRW.

And considering how America seems to love the Big O, I'd suggest putting it on the cover - along with the other heavy-hitters in the US like Nadesico, FMP, EVA and Gundam.

Hmm....

Anybody else think it'd be kinda cool to have an 'option' section wherein you could choose between the new dub of Macross and the old dub of Robotech's Macross Saga? >_>''''''''

I've been wondering something... What about Votoms? It'd be an interesting addition. And that List still needs Macross Plus.

Dunno how popular it is over here, but you can't go wrong with King Gainer.

One thing I would seriously research is how series whose licensed have lapsed (such as Force Five's anime) would be handled. If they're open, then realize that we could actually have Mazinkaiser and Grendizer in the same game, since America lacks the horrible politics that have lead Banpresto to keep the two of them separate.

Some of the licenses for the old stuff might have expired by now.
I would like to see Votoms in a game.

Votoms, eh. That reminds me, what about Xabungle? It could work well with the Heavy Metal system of SRWGC, if they re-use the capture system.

I'd suggest Seijuushi Bisumaruku. It's kinda obscure, but it did play over here in the 1980's or early 90's, I forget which.

I'm pretty sure Saber Rider was aired in the mid-80s in America.

Hmmm, yeah...I remembered it from my own childhood, so it must've aired in Canada sometime in the early 90's.

Not amused.

Gradius! That'd be an interesting addition (so what if it's Konami exclusive), and maybe some Ace Combat Originals? (Falken? Wyvern? Anyone?)

I'd say the AC3 Planes would fit in very well.

Why can't we have Mazinkaiser and Grendizer together?

It's more like Go Nagai doesn't want the Kaiser Vs. Grendizer question answered, IIRC.

Simply put, there's a huge unwarranted rivalry between Mazinkaiser and Grendizer. Grendie has a very strong, very fervent fan following (inexplicably including a large number of Arabs) who think Kaiser is "just another Mazinger" and believe Grendie is stronger. Others believe that Kaiser is stronger. Then there's people like the most of us, who just don't give a damn.

Besides, most sane people realize that the way Mazinkaiser is written, there's no question that it's more powerful than Grendizer, which isn't a slouch itself.

More specifically, I've heard that Grendizer is Officially (for whatever value of the word), Grendizer is the strongest Mazinger, but onscreen performance of Mazinkaiser (none of which, of course, was likely around when the "Official" statement about Grendizer was made) clearly exceeds Grendizer's abilities.

Well, to be fair, Grendizer is only a Mazinger in the honorary sense; it has very little in common with Z, Great and Kaiser.

I don't think there's anything terribly inexplicible about it. Grendizer was as big a hit in the Middle East as GoLion was in the US, so it's to be expected that there would be a lot of fans of it there; same as with Voltes in the Phillippenes.
